Year 9 and 10 Coordinator’s Report

Dear Staff and Students,

There is no doubt that there were challenges last year and at the start of this year. It has been pleasing to see that students have been able to adapt to these challenges whether they be from moving to and from online learning to face to face learning. Thankfully this term we have been able to have some consistency and there have not been any lockdowns. This term, all students were given a presentation reminding them of the importance of taking preventative measures in regards to COVID-19. In general, the students were very mature about the presentation and the acknowledgement of their responsibilities of playing their part in keeping our community safe. Students also had their photographs taken which has also meant that they were able to receive their student ID cards.

While we have had to cancel excursions and events I am pleased to say that in term 3 we are planning and, in some cases, have booked some exciting activities that are likely to provide a normalcy that has been sadly missed. Our Mancave program and Success integrated program were initially booked at the start of the year. Due to COVID-19, however, they had to be cancelled. We now have rebooked these events and they will be held in term 3. These programs work well hand in hand as the Mancave program is aimed at improving the wellbeing of students while also working at improving behaviour. The success integrated programs aim is to improve motivation while also providing help into improving study habits.

At this stage, we are very confident that there will be a year 9 camp that has been booked for 25th to 27th of August. More details of this camp will be sent out soon. Of course, we will monitor the COVID-19 situation and keep relevant stakeholders updated if anything changes. The school camp is a welcomed addition to our school year and is very important for our students’ overall education.

I look forward to the rest of the year and working with management, teachers, parents and students in making this a successful year for us all. Yes, there have been challenges, but we should all be proud of how we have dealt with these and continue to work through them.

Regards,
Mr. Hofis Ouaida
